Medivative Partners with NICO on New Medical Device

January 8, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS – They’re together again! Executives at life science start-up NICO Corporation are partnering with Indianapolis-based Medivative Technologies to develop and manufacture a minimally invasive device for removing tumors and tissues from the human brain.

With most of NICO’s management team being the founding principals of Suros Surgical Systems (one of Indiana’s fastest-growing life sciences companies from 2000-2006), NICO is poised to boldly enter a new medical market.

Not only did the management team stick together, they’re also sticking with the contract medical device manufacturer who helped them successfully launch Suros’ minimally invasive breast biopsy device.

“We are glad to be working with Medivative again on another life sciences endeavor – one that will place a more advanced technology into the hands of physicians in the field of neuro and spinal surgery,” said Jeff Hanthorn, NICO’s vice president and chief operating officer. “This is the way to do life sciences in Indiana, keeping product development and manufacturing within the state. Medivative represents the best in the field of medical device manufacturing.”

NICO’s new technology will not only help surgeons perform endoscopic procedures more accurately and reduce trauma to surrounding tissues, it also will allow patients to potentially experience faster recovery time. It’s the first major advancement in the field of neuro and spinal tissue removal in more than 20 years, Hanthorn said.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to be working with the same great minds at NICO on another vital medical device,” said Bryan Bowman, Medivative’s president. “With our combined experience, we will continue to advance life sciences in the state of Indiana.”
